Noise From Jousting Centre 'Could Drown Out Dying Foxes'

A JOUSTING centre planned for the New Forest has been met with objections from local residents who say the noise from men on horseback fighting each other could disturb men on horseback fighting small animals.

The claims are denied by the centre's owner, who says the new development would give Brockenhurst something to do that doesn't involve a dozen large animals chasing after one small one. "The people of the New Forest have been crying out to watch people dressed up like twats on horses with weapons trying to...well, it's still a good idea OK?"

But critics of the plan claimed that the centre would cause lots of noise, disturbing other people around the area. Jim Brown, who alone forms Brockenhurst Council and is one of four people in the village who aren't students, said: "We have many concerns about the noise level that this centre would cause. It would be very out of keeping with the area. There are also some problems with traffic management on the plan. I, personally, don't believe that the current plan could handle the amount of tractors needed. However, we are looking into the proposal, and we have had several objections."

Tom Butt, of the Countryside Alliance, was one of the people who lodged an objection with the council. "This area is a very traditional area, and we like to keep it that way. I think the noise from the jousting centre would cause interference with the horns we blow, which could confuse the dogs and the horses. Also, the noise of a dying fox is fairly quiet, and we need to be able to hear things like that. I know I can't sleep without the sound of an animal wheezing its last."

"And besides, my dogs need exercise. You know, I'd have to shoot them if they didn't have this as they can't be kept as pets. And I hate to see innocent animals killed."
