Now 254% more exciting
Klodzinski, who will complete the work in the summer, says the mural will celebrate Pokesdown life, and people waiting on the London-bound platform will be able to see the mural in full: "I will show all aspects of Pokesdown life. One side of the mural will be dedicated to drunk people outside the Bell, or whatever it's called now. There will also be parts depicting strange people coming up to you at the bus stop and talking about how they know the Queen. The other side of the mural will be turned into a Tesco Express."
Local councillors were similarly enthusiastic about the project. Jane Royale, head of local projects, said: "This is a really exciting thing for the station. It's almost as ground-breaking as the time we added a bench, so people didn't have to sit on the rubble. But this is another direction, and the fact that a local artist is providing some entertainment for commuters is a boost. Mainly because no-one from outside 10 metres from the station cared enough to do it."
South West Trains said the mural would even help them with their timetabling: "We can pretty much stop trains from calling at Pokesdown. Looking out the window at a mural detailing life in Pokesdown will really reduce the number of people getting off at the station."
