IN RESPONSE to demand, Bournemouth and Poole councils have opened up extra parking spaces for Christmas shoppers.
In the Poole area, Ashley Road in Parkstone was designated a car park - although many Christmas shoppers decided to shop from inside their cars, a move which has confused the council.
"We're not quite sure why people are still inside their cars," said a spokesman. "They've been parked there for half an hour now, so I can only assume they have sent someone else out to shop for them. But that still doesn't explain why they have the engines on."
Meanwhile, Bournemouth residents were struggling to cope with the council's new 5mph speed limit across the town. The limit was introduced to bring the town's roads in line with other parking areas, but it has not been met with much approval - except on the Wessex Way, where drivers are said to be delighted at being able to get home quicker.
